Getting it there in one piece

Shipping & returns

Heavy glass, open flame and food in one box is a packing problem before it is a policy problem. Here is how we think about both — and what this demo site cannot promise.

Read this first. This is a static demonstration storefront with no cart, no payment processing and no fulfilment system. No shipping rate, delivery window, return period or refund deadline below is a live contractual promise. They describe how a real shop of this kind would sensibly operate, written in the same voice as the rest of the site. Nothing here can be transacted.

How boxes are packed

Everything leaves the bench in a rigid outer carton, not a mailer bag. Inside, glass and stoneware sit in molded pulp trays with paper padding in the voids; candles travel in their own sleeves so the wax never touches cardboard; food is bagged separately from anything scented. Loose filler is avoided on purpose — a box that rattles when you shake it means the items are taking the impacts, not the padding.

Crates, baskets and tins are chosen to be reused. The tissue and kraft paper are curbside recyclable in most US programs; the molded pulp trays usually are as well, but check your local rules, because they vary.

Rates and transit

Because a box with a jar of caramels, three candles and a stoneware mug is heavy and irregular, shipping is quoted per order rather than by a flat site-wide rate. Weight, zone and whether a crush-resistant carton is needed all move the number.

  • Rates: calculated per order at the point of sale, not published as a fixed figure here.
  • Carrier: chosen by destination and season — the aim is fewer handoffs, not the cheapest label.
  • Transit time: depends on carrier and distance; this page deliberately avoids quoting a guaranteed date, because this build has no fulfilment calendar to back one up.
  • Tracking: a real shop would send it by email once a label is generated. Nothing is generated here.

Please do not treat any wording on this site as a promise that a box will arrive by October 31st. That commitment has to come from an operator with actual inventory and a shipping calendar.

If something arrives damaged

The practical version of the damage policy, in the order you'd actually do things:

  1. Photograph the box before unpacking it fully — outer carton, inner packing, broken item.
  2. Keep the packaging until the issue is resolved; carriers sometimes ask to inspect it.
  3. Write to the shop with the photos and the set name, ideally within a few days of delivery.
  4. Broken glass or a leaking jar is replaced rather than argued about; the packing is then adjusted so it doesn't repeat.

Because the contact form on this build has no server behind it, none of that can actually be initiated through this site. The description exists so the policy is clear, not because a claims desk is standing by.

Food, candles and change of mind

Two categories behave differently from everything else:

  • Food items — caramels, cocoa, tea, honey, candy — generally cannot be returned once opened, for obvious reasons. An unopened, undamaged food item is a different conversation.
  • Used candles cannot be resold, so a burned candle is not returnable either. An unlit candle with a manufacturing flaw is.

Keepsake objects — linens, prints, stoneware, iron lanterns, the crates themselves — are the simplest case, and are the items most likely to be eligible for a straightforward return in an unopened, unused state.

Wrong address, missed delivery, returns to sender

A box that comes back because of a typo in the address has to be re-shipped at cost. A box that comes back unopened after a missed delivery is usually re-sendable as-is. Since this is a demo build, treat both statements as how the shop would handle it, not as terms you can invoke today.

What this page cannot tell you

To be unambiguous about the limits of a static site:

  • There is no order system, so no shipment can be created, tracked or traced here.
  • There are no payment methods — no cards, no wallets, no invoices, no gift-card redemption.
  • There is no confirmed delivery timeframe, no guaranteed holiday cutoff, and no international shipping table.
  • There is no return merchandise process and no refund mechanism of any kind attached to this website.

The legal side of this is spelled out in the terms of use, and the data side in the privacy policy.

Quick reference

Packing at a glance

For a real shop, not this demo

  • Outer carton

Rigid, double-walled for glass. Never a padded envelope, even for a single candle.

  • Glass & stoneware

Molded pulp trays plus paper void fill. Nothing glass touches another glass item.

  • Food separate

Bagged apart from scented goods so caramels don't taste of clove by the time they arrive.

  • Notes on top

The handwritten card sits last, face up, so it's the first thing seen when the box opens.
